Josh Mason is an Air Force veteran, Solutions Architect at Synack, author of Speak Security With a Business Accent, and founder of two nonprofits helping newcomers launch cybersecurity careers. He’s spoken at Black Hat USA, DEF CON, and Wild West Hackin’ Fest, and hosts the Simply Defensive podcast.
From the cockpit of a C-130 to the front lines of cyberspace, Josh Mason’s career has been defined by precision, adaptability, and a mission-first mindset. As a pilot, he delivered vital supplies and evacuated wounded soldiers from hostile environments. As a Cyberwarfare Officer, he led IT and cybersecurity operations at the Air Force’s largest special operations base, defending critical systems against advanced threats.
After a decade of military service, Josh shifted his focus to education and community building. He trained hundreds of DoD cyber operators, developed advanced red team and threat emulation courses, and built hands-on learning labs that prepared the next generation of defenders. Driven by a desire to remove barriers to entry, he founded Cyber Supply Drop and Noob Village, nonprofits that provide free training resources, mentorship, and welcoming spaces for newcomers to cybersecurity.
Today, Josh serves as a Solutions Architect on Synack’s federal team, bridging the gap between complex cybersecurity challenges and business-aligned solutions. His book, Speak Security With a Business Accent, distills years of leadership and technical expertise into a practical guide for translating security concepts into language that resonates with decision-makers. On stage, whether delivering a keynote, moderating a panel, or MC’ing a conference, Josh combines a pilot’s clarity, a strategist’s precision, and a community-builder’s heart.
